With the high cost of homeownership, people need to work harder and longer to afford a home. If you own land then high building costs and time can blow your budget. You'll feel your dreams aren't achievable. Modular homes are looking more and more attractive as an option. But what are they like, really? Here are 6 misconceptions about modular homes.
Misconception 1: Modular homes are for people who can’t afford a traditional home
Truth: It’s true that modular homes are much more affordable. But there are plenty of reasons someone would choose a modular home over a traditional one if they had the money. Someone might just need some extra room, or would rather spend their money on other things. Holiday, anyone? Modular rooms and homes are installed in a matter of weeks. They’re the perfect choice for someone needing extra space quick.
Misconception 2: They’re all tiny
Truth: Like with any house, there’s no one size fits all. Traditional houses can generally be much larger. That doesn’t mean modular homes are always the same size. There are usually a set of standard builds but this can change from company to company.
For example with Little Rooms there are several sizes available. The smallest of these is 12m2 which is great for a home office, up to 19.8m2. The other bonus of this size is that you don’t need a DA. It meets all the NSW requirements. It's easy to combine Little Rooms as well - we've helped clients by combining two together to double their space.
Misconception 3: They’re machine-made
Truth: Not all modular homes are machine-made. Gone are the days of the flat-pack building your own home. At Little Rooms every panel is hand-cut and packed onto one of our trucks when ready. Then we arrive on-site and construct your Little Room. We have a minimal impact on your property as no cranes or large machinery are used, unlike traditional construction. There’s no waste left on your property and the whole build is much more affordable.
Misconception 4: They’re portable
Truth: Modular homes aren’t portable. Usually, if they have wheels they’re referred to as mobile homes, trailers or ‘on wheels’. We have two trailer builds, 12m2 and 16.4m2 but the rest of the Little Rooms are built on-site and immobile.
Misconception 5: They’re low quality
Truth: There’s no reason why a modular home can’t match a traditional build. The materials used can play a role in this. But once you’ve found a business you can always check the warranty and materials used. That should give you an idea of the longevity of your modular home. All our windows and doors are doubled glazed to provide noise reduction and temperature control.
We offer galvanized iron panels with .4ml of mild steel as well as a 7-year structural warranty on all our builds. You can get your ideal home or room all with the safety that you’re getting real value for money.
Misconception 6: There are a lot of restrictions to living in one
Truth: Due to the size of our Little Rooms there aren’t council approval delays. Plus we work with Independent Finance Group if you need some financing on your Little Room. You can reach Chris on 1300 855 231
